The JSE Engineering team completed a series of Woodstock Dorm facility renovations with Clarkson University. Two of the buildings were designed as Smart Dorm Facilities. The Smart Dorm facilities included extensive metering and monitoring provisions including:
· Each water fixture was equipped with a flow meter to measure the amount of water usage.
· Each electrical circuit had individual electrical metering to measure the amount of electrical usage.
· Each suite was equipped with indoor air quality monitoring equipment.
· All of the metering information will be converted and collected using the existing campus data network.
The Woodstock Village Apartments were designed with LEED principles in mind. The buildings were constructed to be weather tight and energy efficient, including low-e windows and ample rigid insulation around the envelope.
Services included mechanical energy recovery ventilation to offset the often-overlooked indoor air quality issues that typically result from well insulated dwelling structures.
Energy efficient lighting was also installed with intelligent controls. The resulting lighting power densities for the apartments exceeded the ASHRAE minimum guidelines by a respectable margin.
Other services included new water fixtures equipped with a flow meter to measure the amount of water usage, new electrical circuits equipped with electrical metering to measure usage, and indoor air quality monitoring equipment.
All metering information is collected and converted using the existing campus data network.
