In addition to the design of the mechanical and plumbing components of the new 10,000 square foot Public Safety building at Frostburg University, JSE also performed the LEED required energy modeling for the project in order to achieve LEED SILVER certification.
Several high-efficiency design implementations were incorporated to help accomplish an overall energy savings of 31% over baseline including high-efficiency condensing boilers, high-efficiency pumps with ECM motors that modulate based on demand, and VAV boxes with reheats to give greater comfort throughout the building. Low-flow water fixtures, a rain harvesting collection system, and an in-slab sidewalk snow melting system were also provided in the design.
