Power quality issues within the laboratory at the main Guthrie Clinic was interrupting power to critical refrigeration units within the lab.
Refrigeration units were being used to control and maintain delicate temperature and humidity conditions for laboratory samples. Failure of these refrigeration units posed an immediate threat to the Guthrie Clinic operations.
JSE investigated the electrical gear within and feeding the laboratory spaces. Our team installed power quality monitoring equipment and isolated the issue to ground fault pickup nuisance tripping. The circuit breaker settings were adjusted to provide an immediate solution.
JSE suspected that the source of the ground fault stray current was originating from a compressor unit that was nearing the end of its life. Within two weeks of isolating the unit, the compressor burned out, as expected.
