The scope of the project includes electrical design for the replacement of (2) 2MW diesel-fired generators which serve the backup electrical system. Generators are designed for parallel operation with each other and the utility and include all associated protective relaying components. Project challenges include physical gear size and configuration restraints, coordination with National Grid, consideration of remote radiators and impacts of snow, and project phasing – to include the integration of temporary switchgear and large temporary trailer-mounted generators. The project is still currently in the design phase and has recently been re-scoped, to include the investigation and cost analysis of adding a second National Grid utility feeder for additional redundancy.
